In honor of the 3rd edition of Selling Your Business, we sat down with Calhoun Companies president and CEO, Andy Kocemba, to learn more.
This is the 3rd edition of the Sellers Books. What new information can readers expect?
This edition retained all of the useful information from the previous editions, and added to it real-life examples and case studies. Not only does the reader get answers to all their business-selling questions, they also get to read the stories of real people who have successfully sold their businesses.
Why did you decide to update the books?
Certain elements that included dates or figures needed to be made current, but beyond that, we were excited to add the deal stories to the mix. Now the readers can lean more about the different steps and factors that impact the sale of a business, while also reading real-life examples of business owners who took the jump and sold their businesses. This edition gives business owner’s an even fuller picture of the what’s, why’s, and how’s of selling a business.
What is the best way for a potential seller to use the book?
This book is written with business owners in mind: it’s short and simple, designed for people with limited time and a need to get to the point quickly. The matter-of-fact style concludes with workbook pages which allow anyone who’s ready to sell to immediately put the information they learned to practice. It’s all about being hyper-applicable to business owners.
How can someone get a copy of the book?
Contact the Calhoun Companies main office or any of our team members, and we would be happy to get you a copy, free of charge.
Do you have any advice for someone looking to sell their business in the near future?
It’s time to start! People are often surprised by how long the process can take, so if you want to sell soon, now’s the time for action. Start your planning, and most importantly, start assembling your team (it just so happens that there’s a chapter in the book devoted to your team!). Your business broker, accountant, and attorney will all play crucial roles in successfully selling your business.
What if you aren’t looking to sell a business in the next few years? Is this book still useful?
It’s never too early to start planning. The more lead time you have, the more changes you can put into place which will work toward your desired outcome when you sell your business. At Calhoun Companies, we know it’s a process, and we look forward to helping business owners, no matter their timeline.
